Doremi Music Studio sits quietly along Post Street near Japantown, serving up a straightforward karaoke experience that leans heavily on private rooms with solid soundproofing—something many San Franciscans appreciate given how thin the walls can be in local apartments. It's a practical spot for groups wanting to belt out tunes without worrying about disturbing neighbors or dealing with a crowded bar scene.

The karaoke rooms vary in size, making it easy to gather just a few friends or a larger party without feeling cramped. Despite the simplicity of the space itself, the acoustics in these rooms hold up well, letting vocals and instrumentals come through clearly. There's a BYOB and BYOF policy, which many find convenient, especially for late-night sessions, since the studio doesn’t serve food or drinks on-site.

While the music selection covers plenty of classic karaoke staples, the library feels a bit dated, and it relies on a physical songbook organized alphabetically by song title—not by artist— which can slow down the search, especially in the dim lighting of the rooms. This setup might be a minor hiccup if you want to queue up something less mainstream or newer, but most groups find enough familiar tracks to keep the night flowing.

Its location strikes a nice balance: close enough to Japantown for a pre- or post-karaoke stroll, yet tucked away enough that it avoids the heavy weekend crowds you might find in more central nightlife districts. This makes Doremi a low-key alternative when you'd rather sing without a packed room or a long wait. Pricing is on the reasonable side, which keeps this place accessible for regular visits or last-minute outings.

Overall, Doremi Music Studio works best for locals and visitors who prioritize private space and a relaxed, casual environment over flashy tech or extensive modern song catalogs. It’s the kind of spot you come to with friends for an easygoing night of singing, where the biggest draw is being able to turn up the volume and enjoy karaoke on your own terms.

Me and a group of friends visiting San Francisco want to karaoke and our local friend suggested this place. We had the option to BYOB and BYOF so that was great especially since we went late. Great music selection and private rooms with great acoustics.

A perfect spot for karaoke which is close to Japantown to make it convenient, but just far enough to make it not ultra busy. This place always seems to have a spot open (because it has a lot of rooms), and it is very reasonably priced. The song selection is slightly outdated, but includes most of the classic songs you’d wanna sing anyway.

The owners were kind and the rates were good. There wasnt a big selection of music and the book was physical. The choices were alphabetized by song name. It was hard to find songs in the dark room and half of the time they didn't have what I was looking for. It would have been easier if it was organized by artist instead

Most San Franciscans live in apartments, and many of us have very little soundproofing from our neighbors. That means it's so great to have these wonderful karaoke rooms so you can belt out whatever tunes you want as loud as you want. There are rooms in different sizes, whether it's just you solo or a large group of friends. Perfect for parties!

They don't serve food or drinks but the main attraction is the private booths anyway. There are a couple main reasons it's four stars and not five stars: First is that there are no song books that list by artist, just by song title. Second is the song selection is fairly limited. Some songs or artists that could (subjectively) be called karaoke classics aren't available and the updated pages at the back of the book only have more recent top forty types. But overall if you don't want to wait for others in a public stage karaoke venue it's a great place.

Great inexpensive karaoke place in Japantown! They let you bring your own food and drinks which is a nice plus! The sound system and the room itself is a bit old, but the price and being able to BYOB more than make up for it!
